Sofia Ribeiro a la capacité de parler à l’âme des spectateurs à travers sa voix. Sa sonorité peut varier entre doux et fort, fragile et puissant, transmettant ainsi plein d’émotions différentes. Elle chante chaque note, son ou mot avec une intensité et une passion qui séduit le public et l’attire vers son univers sonore unique dès la première note. Les textes, en portugais et anglais, fonctionnent comme une sorte de pilier pour sa musique ; ils décrivent des situations et sentiments, dessinent des images ou simplement racontent des histoires. Sa passion pour la musique traditionnelle portugaise, le Fado, se reflète dans ses compositions personnelles ainsi que dans sa façon unique de chanter et d’improviser. Elle mélange les harmonies et rythmes complexes de la musique brésilienne avec les éléments du Jazz et même du Fado pour ainsi donner naissance à une musique très originale et personnelle.
They first met in Barcelona, in 2003, in the “Escola Superior de Música de Catalunya”, while doing an ERASMUS exchange program. This was the beginning of a strong and successful collaboration that resulted in the development of different projects, the recording of two CDs and numerous performances all over Europe, U. S. A. and Africa.
The musical complicity felt between the two since the very first moment lead them to start a voice and double bass duo. Having a solid Jazz background, they created personal arrangements adapted to this peculiar setting. Their unique sound results of an intimate approach, where details, humour and silence gain special importance, leaving space for improvisation and dialogue between this two instruments that, despite being in opposite ends of range, complement each other.
